Announcements:
- Tim introduced Richard and Angela
(2 of 3 Vista Volunteers for Food Security Project, Liz Sheehan will be the 3rd)
- Sept 19th, National Park(ing) Day – see Dora if interested in a local effort
- Walt & Janet will be in the July 4th parade, with WEC group to promote climate protection initiatives.
Discussions
1. Input on the format/content of the monthly report Tim is now for doing the LC.
2. Forums for remainder of 2008 & 2009:
- Sept Conscientious Consumerism including "The Story of Stuff."
- Oct or Nov will be West River Watershed, other month will be screening of film "Escape from Suburbia" – Tim proposed to do this as a fund raiser
- Dec will be community celebration, looking for ideas, Chandra will look into a community music event with local musicians, a variety of ideas on when and what were presented. – early Dec, wait until Jan, different day, or ???. Return to discussion next meeting.
- For 2009 considerations:
- Local presenters
- Schedule monthly or less frequent?
- Call for input from iBrattleboro or iPutney
- Form a Forum committee?
- Seek collaborations with other groups/efforts such as EWG at SIT or WEC, or Paul Cameron.
Project Updates:
- Low Carbon Diet –
- Janet, Walter & Melissa did teletraining with David Gershom
- Paul Cameron, Barbara Wood & Maria Echevarria from VEI have become involved
- Exploring Global Warming Café concept to bring others in and then they go off and implement LCD program in their own community groups
- Have sent out initial contacts to wide variety of community segments to come to the Global Warming Café
- Pliny Park – Dora needs plants for the garden
- She has gotten some plants & will get a specific list out of what she wants
- Plant or money donations can go to Dora
- TCFM – going strong in 4th week and now and grand opening celebration planned for July 3rd mkt. – Dora suggested getting Select Board to do a Proclamation for an annual Farmers' Market Day.
- Food Security Project
- Vista Training for Tim, Richard & Angela in Philadelphia, mid July
- Retreat planned for all involved (Liz is 3rd Vista Volunteer, she goes to training in Aug).
- Seen as an on-going project ultimately to be assumed by the town
- VEI Collaboration – George will mentor this new class "Diet for the Future" and participants will become involved with some aspect of the Food Security Project.
- Walt noted that national UU agenda item relates to food and how our diets link to the larger picture
- Tim has met with St. Michael's Episcopal group and sees an action group coming from that, anticipates working with other faith community groups
- Soup Kitchens – 5 in town at different locations daily, garden excess can be donated to Drop In Center, Morning Side Shelter, or the soup kitchens.
- Suggested gather list of Drop In Center, Morning Side Shelter, and soup kitchens, contact info and schedule, and not just within Brattleboro but in the outlying towns as well.
- Possibility to coordinate a drop off location at the BAFM for
Fundraiser Simba Dance – Sept 26, Dummerston Grange
Next Agenda – Will discuss policies/procedures.
LC Executive Session
1. Insurance – Discussion on policy needed for events. Questions raised and will be pursued before a decision is made.
2. Conflict of Interest Policy - Adopted the policy Deb presented with understanding that the LC can revisit it at a future time if needed/desired.
3. Reviewed and approved Contracts and compensation for Garden Coordinator and TCFM Manager.
4. LC members present in consensus on inviting 2 new members to join LC and agreed to set policy regarding the process and size of the LC before taking on any future LC members.
