Meeting Minutes

Announcements: (see agenda)

  • SIT conference, sponsored by the Environmental Working Group: Plants People and Possibilities: March 22, full day. More info to come.
  • Bonita’s Being the Change workshop at Parkriti Yoga Studio, Feb. 23rd, 10-4.

Organizational Issues

  • Proposal: Deb to become member of LC. APPROVED.
  • Proposal: To become a 501(c)3.
    • APPROVED
    • LC will meet to write-up bylaws, Board of Directors, etc.
    • Deb can do part of paper work and lawyer can review it.
  • Proposal: Grant application to Windham County
    • Foundation decided to reverse its decision to accept grants from NON-501(c)3
  • Proposal: Elect Executive Director
    • Tim offers his services.
    • APPROVED
  • Proposal: New work study student for ’08 -‘09
    • APPROVED
  • Proposal: Liz and Bonita lead a day long retreat/workshop to include organizational visioning, non-violent communication, and practical facilitation skills.
    • APPROVED
    • Saturday, March 29th, 9-4 on SIT’s campus (to be confirmed)
  • Proposal: LC to submit nomination for Purpose Prize to Civic Ventures in support of Tim.
    • APPROVED
  • Proposal: To raise the workshop fee to $10 from $5, with some scholarships available.
    • DENIED
    • Amended to removal of workshop fee, and instead asking for donations both in advertising and at workshop itself.
    • Decision can be reviewed in future to assess whether costs are being covered.

Jane’s Report on Community Gardens

  • Dora and Jane attended Ag Committee meeting. Idea proposed around state-based incentive for homeowners to create gardens on their property and share with neighbors.
  • Idea proposed for cooperative garden where community members could have plots and learn about gardening, especially residents with little gardening experience.
  • Tim and Vern Grubinger working on possibility of garden in conjunction with Drop-In Center. Possibility of VISTA volunteers to be explored further.

Sherry’s Proposal to Create Townsend Summer Farmers Market

  • Asking for Post Oil support: philosophically and financially
  • Thursday market, 4-7 on the Commons
  • More detailed proposal to be created.
