(Re)Learning To Feed Ourselves Workshops
A simple homemade solar cooker can dry herbs and vegetables or make custard for dessert.
The (Re)Learning To Feed Ourselves Workshop Series evolved from realizing that we need to re-educate ourselves and others in our communities on techniques for long-term storage and preservation of seasonal and locally-grown surplus foods. These traditional skills are no longer being passed on from generation to generation as they once had been, but may become critical if issues related to decreased energy supplies or global climate change disrupt our current long distance food supply lines. For 2007, the workshop series included canning, backyard chicken raising, bread making, mushroom identification, seed saving, extending the growing season, and root cellars.
