CSA Projects 2006 & 2007

2006 Project:
Wilmington/Deerfield Valley CSA

Over the course of the fall, we met with interested citizens and potential food growers in Wilmington, VT that resulted in a community meeting 24 October. This produced
  • a steering committee: Lisa Brooks, Jason Saltman, and Shelly Suponski
  • two potential food growers for the CSA: D. J. Boyd, a local blueberry and flower grower, and Elaine Timmons, who had growing and selling produce at her well-know stand on Rte. 9 in Wilmington 
A critical meeting was held with Gregg Flatt, POS member with academic and personal experience in CSAs, on 8 November. He was able to answer the concerns and questions, especially of D.J. and Elaine 
 
Finally, on 15 December, the Wilmington CSA was formed around D. J. and Elaine, and a decision to limit shareholders to 15 for the first year.

2007 CSA Projects
 
As we approach the end of winter, we are currently involved with 3 potential CSA projects, one with Picadilly Farm in Winchester, NH, which would a produce CSA for the Hinsdale andWinchester, NH and Northfield, MA area.
 
We are also talking with two local meat producers about helping them start meat CSAs.
 
Additionally, we have approached the Deli Department of the Brattleboro Food Co-op with the offer of trying to organize a CSA that would provide fresh local produce for the deli and salad bar.
