Building Sustainable Communities Series

2008 Schedule
3rd Wednesday of each month
Room 2 East
Marlboro Center Graduate School, Brattleboro

Beginning in January 2007 POS began presenting a monthly forum on building community and sustainability as the format for our second meeting of each month.  These presentations are co-sponsored by Marlboro College Graduate Center and their new Managing for Sustainability MBA Program.  These forums are held in a larger venue to enable more people from the community to participate.  Below is the current schedule of presentations:

16 January:

Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash, the award-winning film that explores how our civilization’s addiction to oil puts it on a collision course with geology.

20 February:

Equanimity: How We Carry Ourselves, with POS’ garden guiding light, Robert King. Drawing on the insights of Rudolf Steiner and the Shakers, Robert will explore the role of an individual in a community.

19 March:

The Role of Home Energy Conservation and Efficiency in Creating a More Sustainable Future, with Keith Abbott of Thermal House, Jamaica, Vermont

16 April:

Climate Change, Energy and Vermont, with Dr. Alan Betts, internationally known climate scientist, of the Atmospheric Research in Pittsford, Vermont.

21 May:

The Critical Role that Locally-owned Businesses Can Play in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Oil Dependence, with Stacy Mitchell, author of Big-Box Swindle and a senior researcher with the New Rules Project of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance.

18 June:
