Community Gardens

We’re working to establish garden space for Brattleboro residents who wish to grow organic vegetables, herbs, fruits, and/or flowers in community with others. We began with one community garden in the Summer of 2006, and we seek to create additional neighborhood gardens throughout the Brattleboro area with the return of the gardening season each year.

As we head into the second growing season for the POS Community Gardens
project, there are several exciting items to report:
  • Retreat Healthcare has extended our lease on the Upper Dummerston Road site for another year. There are plans to expand the garden this year.
  • The Committee has located two new sites for gardens: on the campuses of Academy School, on Western Avenue in West Brattlboro, and the School for International Training, on Black Mountain Road in North Brattleboro.
  • The Committee has also contracted with Tom Fugate to do a  workshop on biointensive gardening practices later this Spring.
